Questrade updates IQ Edge platform with improved charts, social capabilities

Canadian brokerage Questrade has just revealed a set of enhancements to its IQ Edge platform, ranging from improved social media capabilities to easier rollover of options into a new order and more powerful charts.

Below are the highlights.

New StockTwits window

The company has added a StockTwits window, which integrates the StockTwits social media feed into IQ Edge. Traders can view stock and market related tweets, link and track symbols from their watch lists, and share charts from IQ Edge directly into the feed.

The StockTwits feed lets traders sort information into various categories, including “Stocks”, “Suggested”, “Trending”, etc.

Having a StockTwits account enables traders to share content directly from IQ Edge, as well as send messages to the feed or to other users.

Manage orders right from charts

Traders can view, modify, or cancel orders all from the chart window. Any single order for a security will be displayed relative to the price axis in a chart. Traders can also drag a price line up or down the axis to quickly modify the order’s price and resend it.

Traders can now rollover options into a new order with a different expiration date and strike price using an option strategy order. There are no restrictions on the strike price or expiration date being rolled out of and in to, and traders can do it from any type of account, including a registered account.

Additional categories and filters in the market movers window

The broker has added new categories and filters to help traders refine their searches and find what they are looking for more quickly.

Cross zero orders

Users of the platform can now create orders to take them from a long to a short position, or a short position to a long position – and only be charged commission once. Previously, two orders needed to be entered: one order to close the position and another order to open a new position on the opposite side. This resulted in two separate commission charges.

Meanwhile, the broker has promised to launch a brand new solution, to replace the existing IQ equities family of platforms, with the release expected by the end of this year.
