Turnover activity on Deutsche Börse cash markets down 6% in May to €103.8B

More down trading volume activity to report for May.

Deutsche Börse Cash Market reports that order book turnover on Xetra, Börse Frankfurt and Tradegate Exchange across all asset classes stood at €103.8 billion in May – down 6% from €110.2 billion in April and off 17% from May 2015 at €125.6 billion.

Of the €103.8 billion, €96.1 billion were attributable to Xetra (May 2015: €117.1 billion). The average daily turnover on Xetra stood at €4.6 billion in May (May 2015: €6.2 billion). A turnover of €2.9 billion was attributable to Börse Frankfurt (May 2015: €3.7 billion). Order book turnover on Tradegate Exchange* totalled approximately €4.9 billion in May (May 2015: €4.8 billion).

Broken down by asset classes, cash market turnover in equities reached about €90.7 billion. Turnover in ETFs/ETCs/ETNs amounted to €11.6 billion. Turnover in bonds was €0.5 billion, in structured products €0.9 billion and in funds €0.1 billion.

The electronic trading platform Eurex Bonds traded €4.7 billion (single counting, mainly government bonds) in May (May 2015: €5.7 billion).

Viewed by transactions, a total of 19.2 million trades were executed on Xetra in May (May 2015: 18.5 million).

The DAX security with the highest turnover on Xetra in May was Bayer AG at €7.8 billion. Covestro AG led the MDAX equities with €645 million, while Schaeffler AG topped the SDAX equity index with €451 million, and Wirecard AG headed TecDAX with €474 million. The ETF with the highest turnover on Xetra was iShares Core DAX UCITS ETF with €1.0 billion.
