CySEC says investor damage claims should be filed with Financial Ombudsman

The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has earlier today published a clarification regarding the handling of investor and shareholder complaints against Cyprus Investment Firms (CIFs).

The regulator said the announcement was made “on the occasion of the full operation of the Financial Ombudsman of the Republic of Cyprus”, which is the institution to turn to, in case investors claim damages from an investment firm. That is, compensation claims should be filed with the Financial Ombudsman, as the CySEC has no restitution powers.

The regulator added that all complaints against CIFs it receives are handled within its supervisory mandate.
