Oanda replaces its CFO

LeapRate Exclusive…. LeapRate has learned that Oanda’s longtime CFO, Toronto-based Nooshin Mohtashami, has left the company. Mohtashami was CFO at Oanda for the past 10 years, and at times held certain other roles including COO, Head of Online Sales, and Head of Customer Service.

This seems to us like the next step new Oanda CEO K Duker is taking in putting his stamp on the company and, we speculate, in preparing Oanda to go public. Oanda recently suspended weekend trading — it was the only major online FX broker doing so — in an attempt, we believe, to lower risk and make itself more appealing to public market investors.

Mohtashami began at Oanda in 1998 and moved up the ranks after being hired initially as a Java/C programmer, and she has an undergrad degree in engineering — not typical background for a public company CFO. We will provide an update once we learn more in terms of a successor to Mohtashami (we would expect someone with public-company-CFO pedigree, similar to what Gain Capital did when they brought in Henry Lyons before going public), what she might do next, etc.
