Gland, Switzerland based online banking and brokerage leader Swissquote Group Holding SA (SWX:SQN) has announced plans to expand its regulated operation in Malta, as it held an event to celebrate five years as a licensed entity on the EU island country.
Since its incorporation in October 2012, Swissquote Financial Services (Malta) Ltd has developed into a Fund Custody and Depositary specialist, recently adding Brokerage services to its offering.
Swissquote also intends offering Pension Custodial services in the near term.
Swissquote Malta celebrated its fifth anniversary during a social event with the presence of all leading industry stakeholders and special participation of Mr. Bryan Robson, Manchester United Football Club Global Ambassador and former Captain.
Swissquote has been a long-term sponsor of ManU.
Swissquote Malta began with its operational launch back in October 2012 as an FX Broker under its then Category 3 licence. Two years later, following local demand for a Custodian and Depositary of sound international repute, Swissquote Malta changed its business model, obtained a Category 4A licence by the MFSA, and launched its business strategy as Custodian and Depositary to Investment Funds based in Malta and non-EU/EEA jurisdictions.
Having recently obtained its Category 2 brokerage licence and through the MiFID cross-border Passport, Swissquote Malta has positioned its brokerage service offering, based on the Swissquote Group’s proprietary online trading platform technology, to a wide audience of Asset Managers, Investment Managers, Fund Managers, Pension Fund Managers, Private Wealth Managers and Family Offices across all EU member states.
The Swissquote brokerage service will empower Managers with the ability to trade on more than 60 stock markets covering over 40 countries, over 40,000 Bonds, 20,000 Investment Funds, Options & Futures on EURE, ICME, ISE, CBOT, NYMEX, COMEX, amongst others, and more than 80,000 leveraged products on the Swissquote OTC platform (Swiss DOTS); an investment universe of over 2.5Mn ISINS available directly online.
In the near term, Swissquote will also provide Custodian services to Pension Schemes under the Retirement Pensions Act, which service stands as a complement to the existing Custody and Depositary services provided to Investment Funds.
