Worldline strengthens “post-Brexit” UK presence with new FCA license

Worldline wants to strengthen the “post-Brexit payments landscape” after securing a Payment Institution Authorisation from the FCA. Worldline’s expansion in the UK is a timely one for clients craving industry-leading features from one of the leading global payment providers. The new license from the Financial Conduct Authority will finally streamline all of Wordline’s customer-related activities in the UK after more than two decades of serving customers in the country.

Worldline CEO Lee Jones stated he is “proud” that the financial services company, which is based in France and founded 50 years ago, has been awarded the license. The company now wants to expand its presence in the UK at a time when many others have struggled to adapt to the complexity of regulations following its departure from the EU.

Jones added:

Paramount for our local service scope and excellence, it sets us apart from many international competitors by bolstering our presence and enhancing our service capabilities while providing more choice for UK merchants.

The domestic license is more than just a badge of honour; customers will now be able to tap into a range of new features and services. Worldline’s UK team is renowned for its market expertise, which will be deployed to support merchants as they optimise costs and payments. Customers will also be able to leverage AI-powered Interchange and Scheme Fees.

Worldline’s growing footprint in the UK mirrors its success in other regions. The multinational payment and transactional services company now serves clients and merchants in 40+ countries and employs more than 18,000 people. Worldline also delivered revenue of €4.4bn in 2022.
