In today’s primary market auction on behalf of the European Commission and the participating EU Member States, a volume of 1,712,500 EUA has been auctioned at a price of EUR 4.55 per EUA on the European Energy Exchange AG (Germany’s energy exchange, EEX) spot market.
This has been the last auction taking place within the framework of the Transitional Common Auction Platform (TCAP).
EEX was appointed as the EU-wide auction platform in September 2012, with the first TCAP auction executed on November 13, 2012. Since then, 545 TCAP auctions were held on the EEX spot market with a volume of more than 1.5 billion tonnes of emission allowances (EUAs and EUAAs) being auctioned.
In July 2016, EEX was re-appointed as Common Auction Platform (CAP2) for another period of up to 5 years. The first auction at EEX under the new CAP2 contract is scheduled for Monday, 5 September 2016.
