On Monday, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced the launch of a new “Supercharged Sandbox,” allowing financial services firms to experiment with artificial intelligence using technology developed by NVIDIA.
FCA to Let Firms Experiment with AI Alongside NVIDIA
The initiative forms part of the FCA’s broader strategy to accelerate digital innovation and economic growth.
It is said to give firms access to NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and AI Enterprise Software, along with enhanced datasets, technical support and regulatory guidance.
“This collaboration will help those that want to test AI ideas but who lack the capabilities to do so,” said Jessica Rusu, the FCA’s chief data, intelligence and information officer. “We’ll help firms harness AI to benefit our markets and consumers, while supporting economic growth.”
Dr Jochen Papenbrock, EMEA head of financial technology at NVIDIA, said the project would support widespread adoption of AI in financial services.
“AI is fundamentally reshaping the financial sector by automating processes, enhancing data analysis, and improving decision-making,” he said. “The FCA’s Supercharged Sandbox provides firms with a secure environment to explore AI innovations using NVIDIA’s full stack accelerated computing platform.”
The FCA stated that the sandbox is open to any financial services firm interested in exploring AI applications. They can apply via the FCA website. Successful applicants are expected to begin experimentation from October.
The initiative builds on the FCA’s existing Digital Sandbox, operated with infrastructure from NayaOne, and complements the regulator’s AI Live Testing programme for firms further along in development.
