Hong Kong securities regulator shoots TV drama about its work

The vigilant Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has teamed up with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) to create “SFC in Action 3”, a law-enforcement television drama portraying some interesting cases from the work of the Hong Kong regulator.

“SFC in Action 3” is the third series of programs highlighting the importance of vigorous enforcement actions for safeguarding the integrity of the market and protecting the interests of investors.

The new series consists of six half-hour episodes each evolving around a different type of enforcement case, including insider dealing, market manipulation, unlicensed activities, corporate mis-governance, misappropriation and misleading research reports.

“This is a dramatised version of the SFC’s enforcement work, but the underlying message is very serious: for wrongdoers in our financial markets, the consequences will far outweigh the gains,” said Mr Mark Steward, the SFC’s Executive Director of Enforcement.

The SFC is not the first financial regulator to use video content to raise awareness about financial regulation and possible fraud cases. In June this year, FINRA’s Investor Education Foundation launched a new video game – “Con ‘Em If You Can” in an effort to teach investors how to outsmart investment fraud criminals.

The SFC drama premiers on TVB Jade and RTHK TV 31 on Wednesday, August 5, 2015.
