Samsung Pay now available for Commonwealth Bank customers

Commonwealth Bank just announced that its customers will now have access to Samsung’s contactless payments platform, Samsung Pay.

CBA’s MasterCard card holders can now load their credit and debit card details and make secure payments via compatible Samsung Galaxy, wearables and other compatible devices.

Michael Baumann, General Manager Everyday Banking & Payments, Commonwealth Bank said the partnership with Samsung Pay gives customers even more ways to pay.

With more than $6 billion of transactions across the CommBank app each week we know that our customers love using their phones to make payments. Since 2013 our customers have been able to use their smartphones to make payments. By offering customers the ability to pay with Samsung Pay we are combining choice and convenience.

Garry McGregor, Director of IT and Mobile, Samsung Electronics Australia said the partnership demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to making mobile wallets an everyday reality for millions of Australians.

We’re thrilled to partner with Commonwealth Bank on Samsung Pay as this strengthens our shared commitment, that’s existed since 2013 with CBA’s Tap & Pay on the Galaxy S4, to develop easy-to-use, secure and ‘smart’ mobile wallet options for Australians.

Today’s announcement follows CBA’s partnership with Google in November to offer Android Pay on compatible devices at almost 800,000 stores across Australia. CBA customers have also been able to make payments on the go with Fitbit and Garmin’s new payment-enabled smartwatches.

Samsung Pay complements CBA’s Tap & Pay functionality that allows customers to make contactless payments using an Android smartphone of their choice. The CommBank app also allows our 4.8 million customers to store and use their favourite store loyalty cards and transfer money to family and friends with ease.

For customers who use an iOS device, CBA has offered contactless payments via an optional PayTag sticker for more than four years. Customers can use the PayTag sticker to make contactless payments up to $100 by simply tapping their phone.

Samsung Pay will be available to CBA’s MasterCard credit and debit card holders from today.
