SET sees derivatives trading volume jump 87.5% MoM in December 2015

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has earlier today posted its trading metrics for December 2015 and the full 2015, with derivatives trading volumes delivering a positive piece of news by registering a sharp rise.

The Exchange reported that derivatives trading volumes averaged 281,079 contracts per day in December 2015, a reading that is 87.5% higher than in November 2015. Looking at annual metrics, we see that for the whole year of 2015, derivatives trading volume averaged 199,749 contracts per day, up 35.86% year on year.

The SET attributed the robust results to the increase in transactions of SET50 Index Options and SET50 Index Futures.

On the downside, the SET index ended 2015 at 1,288.02 points, down 14% from end-2014 and down 5.3% from end-November 2015.

The market capitalization of SET was at THB 12.28 trillion (USD 341.2 billion), down 11.36% from the end of 2014, while market valuation of the Market for Alternative Investment (MAI) was at THB 323.48 billion (USD 8.99 billion), down 15.56% from the end of 2014.
