ASX registers 30.5% MoM jump in futures trading volumes in September

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) registered a steep month-on-month rise in futures trading in September 2015, with volumes staging a rise of more than 30% from August 2015 levels. On the downside, even the robust numbers reported for last month could not match the achievements seen in September 2014.

In September 2015, futures and options on futures volume increased 30.5% from August 2015 levels to 13,054,846 contracts. The result, however, was 1% below the result recorded in September 2014.

Futures volumes for September 2015 reached 12,921,288 contracts, up massive 31.4% from August 2015, but slightly down (-0.2%) from September 2014 levels.

Options on futures volumes totalled 133,558 contracts last month, down 26.2% month-on-month and down 41% year-on-year.

The monthly volume of index and equity options traded on-exchange fell 15% year-on-year to 10,236,934 contracts, with the decline reflecting mainly a 17% drop in equity options volumes.
