Avelacom expands to Virginia with direct connection to Amazon AWS North America

Avelacom expands to a wider variety of cryptocurrency markets, making it easer for institutions to take advantage of arbitrage and other latency sensitive strategies.

Global connectivity and IT infrastructure provider, Avelacom, launched a new point-of-presence (PoP) in Ashburn, Virginia, with direct connectivity to Amazon AWS US – East–1 region. Its most popular route for cryptocurrency arbitrage, AWS Ashburn to AWS Dublin, is now the fastest line available in the market at a guaranteed 65.3ms round-trip latency.

The new connection to AWS Ashburn provides better coverage and increased predictable performance for arbitrage strategies for such clients like cryptocurrency hedge funds, asset managers, broker dealers and proprietary trading firms handling multiple global exchanges.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosts cryptocurrency trading venues and it makes it important for latency-sensitive firms to be physically close to exchanges’ matching engines and fast and reliable connectivity between them. Avelacom has setup low latency connections to AWS locations in Dublin, London, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Hong Kong in the past. These connections support made price discovery and order execution better.

Cryptocurrency trading is a very dynamic market, with high growth rates and is a key focus for Avelacom this year. A key driver of institutional adoption is IT infrastructure, which our solution portfolio and ready-to-go infrastructure provides. Our goal is to make markets more accessible and pave the way for greater number of market participants.

Avelacom currently connects to all types of exchanges and has more than 80 PoPs globally. The architecture is optimized for law latency operations to meet high standards of the capital markets.

The company announced in the beginning of December last year that it enhanced its high-speed network performance. Avelacom teamed up with Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited’s (HKEX) and joined its ecosystem of network service providers to offer the market’s lowest latency route between London and Hong Kong. And in July it added Gemini Trust Company, LLC, a digital asset exchange and custodian, to its list of cryptocurrency exchange tech vendors in Equinix’s NY5 data center.
