CFTC vacates derivatives clearing registration of CME Europe

cme europe shut

At the request of the CME Clearing Europe Ltd. unit of derivatives marketplace operator CME Group Inc (NASDAQ:CME), the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) issued an order today that vacates the registration of CME Europe as a derivatives clearing organization (DCO) effective August 8, 2017.

The CFTC registered CME Europe as a DCO by order dated November 29, 2016. On May 10, 2017, CME Europe requested that the CFTC vacate its registration.

We explained back in April that CME decided to shut CME Europe, as EU clients preferred direct US infrastructure access.

With CME Europe’s vacation of its registration order, there are now 16 DCOs that are registered with the CFTC, including six that are based outside of the United States.
