Vodafone and Jio to restrict spamming via blockchain

Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio Infocomm are partnering on a new blockchain-based technology to restrict the number of spam calls and messages to users. The project means that over 1 billion mobile users will benefit from the improvement. The project is carried through with the help of Tanla Solutions and Tech Mahindra. The information comes from the Economic Times.

The innovative program is taking place in India, where the Telecom Regulatory Authority of the country has issued a regulation to essentially stop all spam messages and calls effective from the end of May, 2019. Through the blockchain-enable solution, all users will be able to set their own preferences for communication.

The partners on the project have huge user base, with Vodafone leading the pack with some 400 million users. In total, the four companies that are creating the project have around 1billion users.

According to a news report from Danish Khan from ET, this is what a representative from Tanla Solutions said regarding the project:

Deployment is underway and will help in arresting spam and fraud-related commercial communications for Vodafone Idea subscribers.

While blockchain disrupts industries around the world and its impact is palpable, this could be a revolutionary step in the development of the telecom industry.
