Market uncertainty leads to CME Group open interest record of over 120 million contracts

Continued market volatility and uncertainty has led derivatives marketplace operator CME Group Inc (NASDAQ:CME) to announce that it has set a total open interest record of 120.7 million contracts on December 13, 2016, surpassing the previous record of 119.4 million contracts set on December 12, 2016.

According to Terry Duffy, CME Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer:

We are seeing a lot of uncertainty in the markets right now. In the wake of this uncertainty and continued market volatility, more and more people are turning to CME Group’s deep and liquid markets to manage their risk.

Interest Rate open interest also hit a record of nearly 72.0 million contracts yesterday, driven primarily by Eurodollar options, which reached a record of nearly 44.0 million contracts.
