SET sees derivatives trading volume drop 10% MoM in February 2016

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has just published its trading metrics for February 2016, with derivatives trading volumes staging a decline of nearly 10%, continuing a downward trend already exhibited in January 2016.

SET said the derivatives trading volumes averaged 191,873 contracts per day in February 2016, down 9.97% from the result of 213,128 contracts registered in January 2016. The Exchange blamed the decline on weaker trading volumes of SET50 Index Futures, SET50 Index Options and USD Futures.

The SET index, however, ended February at 1,332.37 points, marking a rise of 3.4% from end-2015 and  a rise of 2.4% from a month earlier.

At the end of February, the combined market capitalization of the SET’s main board and Market for Alternative Investment (MAI) reached THB 13.03 trillion ($369.2 billion), up 2.3% from January 2016. The average daily trading value of SET and MAI in February was THB 41.8 billion, down 5.7% month on month, with the Exchange attributing the drop to weaker trading activity during the Chinese new year holidays.
