CBOE Holdings’ trading volumes drop 5% MoM in October 2015

CBOE Holdings, Inc (NASDAQ:CBOE), the holding company for Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), C2 Options Exchange (C2), CBOE Futures Exchange (CFE), and other subsidiaries, has just reported its operating metrics for October 2015, with the results adding to a downward trend already exhibited in September 2015.

The total trading volume in October 2015 for options contracts on CBOE, C2 and futures contracts on CFE was 98.8 million contracts, with an average daily volume (ADV) of 4.5 million contracts, marking decreases of 5% and 9%, respectively, from September 2015.

Annual comparisons with record-setting October 2014 were more dismal. Total volume and ADV during October 2015 declined 39% and 37% in annual terms, respectively.

CBOE Volume: October 2015

CBOE’s ADV for the month was 4.0 million contracts and total volume was 88.8 million contracts, marking declines of 8% and 4%, respectively, from September 2015. When compared to October 2014’s records in ADV and total volume, October 2015 ADV declined 36% t and total volume declined 39%.

C2 Volume: October 2015

C2’s ADV for the month was 274,198 contracts and total volume was 6.0 million contracts, down 7% and 2%, respectively, from September 2015.

When compared to October 2014’s records in ADV and total volume, October 2015 ADV declined 43% and total volume declined 45%.

CFE Volume: October 2015

Total ADV at CFE was 181,760 contracts in October, down 28% from September 2015 and 44% from the record ADV in October 2014. Total volume at CFE for the month was 4.0 million contracts, down 24% from September 2015 and 46% from October 2014.
