Japan’s Monex unveils top management changes

Monex Inc, a subsidiary of online trading services provider Monex Group, Inc. (TYO:8698), has earlier today announced a set of top management changes, including a new president.

Effective November 1, 2015, Toshihiko Katsuya, currently Managing Director and Deputy President at the broker, will assume the roles of Representative Director and President. He remains as Executive Director and CPO of Monex Group.

Oki Matsumoto, currently President, CEO, and Representative Director, will also see changes in responsibilities. After November 1, 2015, his set of roles will include those of Representative Director, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and Customer Happiness Officer.

Oki Matsumoto started his career at Salomon Brothers Asia Limited in April 1987. He then joined Goldman Sachs Japan Co., Ltd. in April 1990 and was appointed General Partner of The Goldman Sachs Group, L.P. in November 1994. As a General Partner, he was Co-Head of its Tokyo Branch’s FX & Fixed Income Business and was in charge of FX and fixed income products and the related risk management.

In April 1999 Matsumoto jointly established (the former) Monex, Inc. with Sony Corporation. In August 2004, Matsumoto become the Representative Director and CEO of the Company (former name: Monex Beans Holdings, Inc.) upon its formation through management integration of Monex, Inc. and Nikko Beans Inc. He was named the Representative Director, Chairman and CEO of the Company in February 2011 and then assumed his current position in June 2013.

Toshihiko Katsuya started his career in April 1989 when he joined The Mitsubishi Bank, Ltd. (currently The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd.).

In April 2006 he began working for Monex Beans Holdings, Inc. (currently Monex Group, Inc.) and two years later became Executive Director at Monex Beans Holdings, Inc. (currently Monex Group, Inc.). In October 2010, he assumed the roles of Representative Director and President at Monex FX, Inc, before being appointed as Managing Director in June 2013 and Deputy President in June 2015.

He holds an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley and a BA in Law from the University of Tokyo.
