BitX appoints new Chief Compliance Officer

Some more executive appointments in the digital currency industry today as BitX, a bitcoin provider of digital wallets and exchanges announced today that Erik Wilgenhof Plante will be joining BitX as Chief Compliance Officer. Erik will be based in the firm’s Singapore office and will lead internal compliance strategy and external regulatory relationships across the markets BitX operates in.

Erik is one of the most experienced regulatory and compliance experts in the cryptocurrency industry. He was instrumental in building the compliance function of itBit across the US and Asia over the past two years. Before that he  served as a Senior Compliance Manager at PayPal where he oversaw regulatory and operational compliance for Southeast Asia. He has also conducted numerous workshops and presentations on compliance topics for companies and regulators worldwide.

BitX states they see regulation and compliance as a core part of its overall strategy, so much so that they have enshrined them its founding values. The firm goes on to say “…that it is in the best interest of our customers and the industry that cryptocurrency is regulated in a responsible yet pragmatic manner.”

Over the past few years BitX has been at the forefront, building a best-in-class compliance framework, and  working closely with governments, regulators and financial institutions. BitX is also very focused on integrating these best practises to enhance the overall customer experience. For example; they were the first cryptocurrency company in the world that integrated Know Your Client  procedures into a mobile platform.
