SIX Swiss Exchange in partnership with ETH ZISC

SIX Swiss Exchange plans to work more closely with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich in order to be even nearer to the beating heart of research.

A twelve-year research cooperation agreement with Zurich Information Security and Privacy Center (ZISC) at the ETH was sealed yesterday, making it an active cooperation partner for future projects and developments.

This commitment on the part of SIX will underpin education and research in the area of information security and contribute to the future security and reliability of IT systems, data security and protection against undesirable access by third parties. Special focus will be placed on the area of cybersecurity and innovation in the Cloud.

The commitment of SIX and other sponsors, in conjunction with the ETH Zurich Foundation, will allow the ZISC to operate its OpenLab, which aims to promote the central exchange of ideas and information between researchers at the ETH and partners in business. SIX will be actively involved with the ETH-ZISC OpenLab.

Prof Lino Guzzella, President of ETH Zurich, commented:

We are pleased that we have managed to win such a strong partner in the field of finance. As our society and the business world become more digitally connected, we face an increased risk for the misuse of data and cybercrime. A closer cooperation between business and research is necessary. The ZISC competence center offers the ideal platform to facilitate such a collaboration.

Dr Urs Rüegsegger, Group CEO of SIX stated:

The central role of financial market infrastructure makes it crucial to protect against all forms of cyber risk. Collaboration with the ETH should enable us to achieve and maintain top IT security standards.
