UK’s SFO continues investigation into Global Forex Investments, Global Forestry Investments

The UK Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has provided an update regarding its investigation into Global Forex Investments and Global Forestry Investments, fraudulent investment schemes that have led to multi-million losses for UK investors.

The start of the criminal investigation was officially announced in February this year, when the SFO asked people who have invested funds into Global Forestry Investments and/or Global Forex Investments to fill a specific questionnaire to help authorities in their work.

In its latest update on the case, the SFO said it was now trying to establish contact with a cross-section of those investors who have completed the questionnaire.

According to a report by the Sunday Times published several months before the SFO started its investigation, the firm associated with the fraudulent schemes is GFI Consultants. It was formed in 2010, with its main business being promising guaranteed stable returns to investors, who were offered to pump their money into the financial markets or the so-called alternative and ethical investments. Many were promised they were saving the rainforest with their money.

The firm, however, went into liquidation in 2013, with investors left with no access to their funds.
